Churches
Within the Zvishavane region, we are working with 68 churches. These are divided into 12 circuits and each circuit is supported by a Pastor who is sponsored by churches in New Zealand or Australia. Each Pastor is actively looking for new opportunities to develop new preaching points leading to the establishment of new church congregations.
In the urban area around Bulawayo, there are 8 large churches each able to support their own Pastor. Collectively, these churches are also working in the new resettlement areas supporting an evangelist who is actively developing new preaching points. In excess of 30 such points have been established in recent years.
In Gweru, there are 5 large churches each supporting their own Pastor and again, these churches are working in the new resettlement areas by supporting an evangelist.
This structure provides Kiwilink the ability to reach the rural people with it's humanitarian and community development activities. Each church includes community leaders perhaps including the local chief and members fully understand the needs of that community. Where for example food relief is required, the members are aware of the most needy people in that area. Distribution can take place from the local church as the central point to those previously identified recipients. This network enables targeted and efficient distribution enabling empowerment of the local people. Through this structure, Kiwilink is able to visit politically sensitive areas including those normally regarded inaccessible to media and while we do not engage in political activities, we have a good understanding of the needs that exist.
