KCV Orphans
The Khayelihle Childrens Village located on the outskirts of Zimbabwe's second largest city Bulawayo, currently accommodates 90 children in four houses on a 270 acre property. While most of the children come from an abandoned background, a major contributor to the number of orphans is the HIV/AIDS pandemic where one in five people in Zimbabwe are HIV positive.
Most of the new orphans over recent years are abandoned babies who have been left to die because their mothers could not afford to keep them. Each of these children have multiple sponsors in NZ, Australia and the US.The Khayelihle Childrens Village now has a preschool building thanks to a donation from the United States and the building doubles as a Church on Sundays as KCV has found it difficult to transport 84 children to church each Sunday. The church activities reach out to neighbours as the nearest Church is 15km from the farms. At present 16 neighbours are joining the KCV village. It is always good fun spending time with the pre-schoolers and visitors are encouraged to ask the children questions. They are always ready to sing a song to any visitors.
