15 July - A sad week last week with the deaths of KCV Chairman Mr KD Dube, a retired American missionary the grand-daughter of our Borehole co-ordinator Boniface Mpofu and finally, the death of one of our church leaders in the Dadaya region. Amongst the good news however, has been a successful distribution of shoes and socks to each of the 100 TIGO orphans. Food was also distributed and school fees paid. Politically, the country is slowing moving toward the establishment of a new constitution and teams of people are combing through the country. The Zimbabwean Government are wishing to sell a large stockpile of diamonds so finance infrastructure but are struggling to obtain Kimberley certification that the diamonds are conflict free.
30 June - The constitution process is now under way with teams moving out to the hinterland to obtain the will of the people. In some areas, this process is successful, in other areas there is intimidation where for example, the local chief will order his people to have nothing to do with the process. President Mugabe is pushing for the adoption of the 'Kariba Draft' a constitution that has already been rejected by the people. The Kariba draft gave the President extensive powers. A further three Pastors have commenced employment having just graduated from Bible College bringing the total in the Dadaya region to 13. Progress is being made toward the next 10 boreholes. This is requiring geotech work and discussions with local chiefs as to the location of each borehole.
7 June - Both President Mugabe and opposition leader Tsvangarai have been pushing for fresh elections in May 2011. Their MPs are not so keen and while the cynical might say that they don't want to risk mid term elections for fear of missing out, the reality is that the constitution process has stalled and this needs to be concluded first. The voters roll is also in disarray as has been the case with previous elections. The proposed indigenous regulations which if passed would force foreign owned companies with assets more than US$500,000 to cede 51% of it's shareholding to blacks, has also stalled as the opposition party calls for it's repeal. Kiwilink has recently received a large donation for boreholes and we are now able to get the next 10 underway.
